A steady snow fell during the predawn hours of Christmas Day, but that peacefulness would not last in Englewood for very long, as flames consumed a home, but thankfully caused no injuries.

A basement fire was reported at approximately 5:30 AM at 379 Lantana Avenue. On arrival, heavy smoke was venting from the 2 ½ story home with visible flames in the rear. A second alarm was sounded bringing Tenafly, Teaneck, Hackensack, and Leonia to the scene. Companies worked to hold the fire, but it spread through the walls and soon took possession of the attic, which then went through the roof and out an attic window on the “D” side. Members remained in an offensive attack and eventually were able to access and knock down the flames. The fire was placed under control and mutual aid companies were released. The involved home was extensively damaged, and it was reported that the mother of rapper Jim Jones resides there. The cause is under investigation.
